The minuscule flake format of the aluminium particles is very important for application in pyrotechny and explosives. The specific surface is considerably larger than the powders of atomized aluminium; the particle diameter is 50 times its thickness however in the atomized powder the two dimensions are equivalent.
Due to its reactivity, there are innumerous compositions of explosives and fireworks that utilize aluminium pigments.
